CHRISTMAS CARDS/ HOLIDAY TREATS:

Some parents have asked for the names of the children in the class so they can send in Christmas cards or holiday treats. Please note there is no obligation to send in treats for the class or Christmas cards. I do ask that if you would like to do this, to please include all of the children so no one feels left out. Thank you for your cooperation :)

This Friday, December 15th, 2017, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the  "B" sound on Wednesday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "B" sound include:  bat, ball, bike, banana and bag.

HOLIDAY SHOW:

On Thursday, December 14th, 2017, (at 7:00 PM) Good Shepherd School will be putting on our holiday show.  My Kindergarten class is paired with Ms. Alexis' grade 6 class and we will be doing a choreographed dance. DOORS open at 6:15 P.M.   If you would like to attend the show, you must pre-order tickets (maximum of 2 per family) by completing the order form sent by email last week.  The tickets do sell out quickly as there is only 1 show in the evening.  There is a day show for grandparents and extended family and friends (ONLY).  We are asking all of children to arrive at 6:45 PM and come directly to MY CLASSROOM.

* We are asking the children to "DRESS UP" for the Holiday show. Please dress your child in GREEN or RED if possible.  If possible please bring a Santa hat as well.

Please refer to the introduction letter for a more detailed explanation of this on the 2nd page of both duo-tangs.

TEDDY BEAR VISIT:

This FRIDAY, December 8th, 2017, I am asking all the children to bring in a teddy bear for our Teddy Bear visit. All of the teddy bears will be returned home on Friday for the weekend. Thank you for your usual cooperation. :)

TERM 1: 3R'S ASSEMBLY

This morning, we had a whole school assembly where we discussed the 3R's: respect, responsibility and ready to work/learn.  Three students from each class received certificates.  Before the assembly, I discussed this with the class and explained how difficult it was for me to select only three students to win certificates.  I reminded them not to get discouraged (if they did not win a certificate) and to keep working hard and maybe next time it would be his/her turn.  I hope there were no tears or broken hearts this evening. 

SCHOLASTICS:

I am sending home the flyers for the month of December this week.  Please note that the deadline to submit your order is Wednesday, December 6th, 2017. If your order if a surprise, I can send it home in a sealed envelope.

I would like to extend a very big thank you to NOAH's mother for taking time out of her schedule to join us for the Remembrance Day assembly last Friday and for speaking with the children in my class about her job in the military and the importance of Remembrance Day.  :)

You will be able to access your child's first term report card on Thursday, November 16th, 2017 on the RSB portal. Please note that the school will no longer send home paper copies of the report cards.

Thank you :)

This week in Kindergarten October 16th-October 20th

Sound Monster: 

This Friday, October 20th, 2017, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the "t" sound on Wednesday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "t" sound include: tape, turtle, turkey, tulip, tomato and two (2).

BAKE SALE: 

Please return the bottom portion of the bake sale letter that was sent home last week, indicating your contribution to the bake sale. Thank you to the families that have already done so.  All of the proceeds from the bake sale will go directly to our 2 Kindergarten classes.

LIBRARY: 

Please return your child's library book by TUESDAY in the ZIPLOC BAG. Thank you!

The deadline to return the October order forms is: Wednesday, October 18th, 2017.

REMINDERS:

The blue duo-tang will be sent home every Monday and must be returned the following Monday. You will keep the purple duo-tang at home. Throughout the week, please review the sound of the week and have your child complete the corresponding pages in the purple duo-tang.  Please have your child practice singing the weekly songs/poems and complete the activity at the bottom of the page (if there is one) in the blue duo-tang. Please refer to the introduction letter for a more detailed explanation of this on the 2nd page of both duo-tangs.

Please continue to have your child practice writing his/her name EVERY DAY.

Important Information:

Please take note that since this is a very short school week (only 3 days, and only 2 days with me), we will not be learning a new sound or number this week. There will therefore be no Sound Monster this week either.

A very big thank you to all of the parents who were able to join us for the Thanksgiving Breakfast last week.  Thank you to all of the families for contributing food to our breakfast and to everyone for helping with the set up and clean up. We all had a wonderful time!

This week in Kindergarten October 2nd - October 6th

Sound Monster: 

This Friday, October 6th, 2017, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the "f" sound on Friday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day. Many of the children feel left out when they do not have an item to feed the Sound Monster on Fridays.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "f" sound include: fish, fire, four (4), flower and finger.tomato and two (2).

*** Over the past two weeks, many students have FELT LEFT OUT when they did not have an item from home to feed the Sound Monster.  The Sound Monster is always on Fridays (unless there is a PED. DAY).  Thank you for your support and cooperation. ***

Important Information: 

Thanksgiving Breakfast: 

Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 is Good Shepherd School's Thanksgiving breakfast (which is a school wide activity). Families are invited to eat breakfast with our class and the school community on Wednesday, October 4th, 2017 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the gym. I have asked all of the children to bring in a contribution for the breakfast. Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you on Wednesday! :)

If you have not sent in your child's 3 apples, please do so as soon as possible. We have many fun activities planned related to apples.  Please send in a red apple (a Red Delicious or McIntosh), a yellow apple (Golden Delicious) and a green apple (Granny Smith). We will use the apples to make apple sauce this Friday and for a taste test as well as some Science and Math lessons.

This week, I am sending home the October flyers for Scholastics.  The September orders should arrive any day now :)  If you are ordering books as a surprise or present for your child, please let me know and I will send home your order in a sealed envelope for you.   Each order helps earn free books for our classroom; however there is never any obligation to order.  The deadline to return the order form is: Wednesday, October 18th, 2017.
