THEME TABLE:

HOLIDAY PLAY:

On Thursday, December 20th, 2018, (at 7:00 PM) Good Shepherd School will be putting on our holiday play.  Throughout the play, every class will perform a song.  My Kindergarten class is paired with Ms. Sarah's grade 6 class.  If you would like to attend the show, you must pre-order tickets (maximum of 2 per family) by completing the order form.  The deadline to order tickets is MONDAY, DECEMBER 17th, 2018.

Sound Monster: 

This Friday, December 14th, 2018, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the  "J" sound on Wednesday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "J" sound include:  jacket, jug, jeep, jaguar and jar.

IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT Class Dojo:

Last week I missed a Dojo message from a parent who was picking up their child early from school.  Please communicate with me via the agenda, by telephone and by email. The class Dojo account is connected to Ms. Kelsea's teacher account and I may not receive all of your messages immediately if they are sent by Dojo.

HOLIDAY PLAY:

REMINDERS:

* Last week, I kept the blue duo-tangs while waiting for the ones that were missing.  Please send in your child's blue duo-tang ASAP and on every Monday so that we can add the new songs to the duo-tang.

The blue duo-tang will be sent home every Monday and must be returned the following Monday. You will keep the purple duo-tang at home. Throughout the week, please review the sound of the week and have your child complete the corresponding pages in the purple duo-tang.  Please have your child practice singing the weekly songs/poems and complete the activity at the bottom of the page (if there is one) in the blue duo-tang. Please refer to the introduction letter for a more detailed explanation of this on the 2nd page of both duo-tangs.

Hello families!  I am happy to be back at Good Shepherd School and with my kindergarten munchkins. :) For the month of DECEMBER, I will be working on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Ms. Kelsea will continue to replace me on Tuesdays and Thursdays for DECEMBER.

UPDATE- October 6th, 2018

Hello families of my Kindergarten munchkins,

By now you have heard that I will be on medical leave for the next two months.  Ms. Kelsea will be replacing me until my return.  I have spoken with her and reviewed my teaching schedule and explained to her the direction I was headed with my teaching.  I have completed the first term progress reports for your children which you will be receiving this week.  Please tell your children I will miss them all and look forward to returning to collect lots of hugs and smiles!

Sound Monster: 

This Friday, October 5th, 2018, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the "f" sound on Friday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day. Many of the children feel left out when they do not have an item to feed the Sound Monster on Fridays.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "f" sound include: fish, fire, four (4), flower and finger.tomato and two (2).

*** Over the past two weeks, many students have FELT LEFT OUT when they did not have an item from home to feed the Sound Monster.  The Sound Monster is always on Fridays (unless there is a PED. DAY).  Thank you for your support and cooperation. ***

Important Information: 

Thanksgiving Breakfast: 

Thursday, October 4th, 2018 is Good Shepherd School's Thanksgiving breakfast (which is a school wide activity). Families are invited to eat breakfast with our class and the school community on Thursday, October 4th, 2018 from 8:30 AM to 9:30 AM in the gym. I have asked all of the children to bring in a contribution for the breakfast. If you can join us, please head to the gym for 8:30 AM. Thank you for your support and I look forward to seeing you on Thursday! :)

If you have not sent in your child's 3 apples, please do so as soon as possible. We have many fun activities planned related to apples.  Please send in a red apple (a Red Delicious or McIntosh), a yellow apple (Golden Delicious) and a green apple (Granny Smith). We will use the apples to make apple sauce this Friday and for a taste test as well as some Science and Math lessons.

Please continue to have your child practice writing his/her name EVERY DAY.  Please have your child use lower case (small) letters for his/her name.  Thank you!

LIBRARY: 

Library will begin next week for our class. The students will visit the library every Thursday with Ms. Sheena as their teacher for that period.

SCHOLASTICS BOOKS: 

This week, I am sending home the October flyers for Scholastics.   If you are ordering books as a surprise or present for your child, please let me know and I will send home your order in a sealed envelope for you.   Each order helps earn free books for our classroom; however there is never any obligation to order.  The deadline to return the order form is: Friday, October 12th, 2018.

Important Information:

Thank you so much to all of the parents and grandparents who took time out of their busy schedules to join us on our fishing trip field trip last week. It meant so much to the children! Everyone had a wonderful time :) Unfortunately during the action of the field trip day, I missed taking individual pictures of three students.  I do apologize for this.  Please be sure to visit the photos tab to see the pictures.

It is hard to believe that we are in the last week of school!  We have had a terrific year together in Kindergarten!  Thank you very much to all of you for your wonderful collaboration and support throughout the year to ensure that your little ones had a great first year of school here at Good Shepherd School. 

*** SUPPLIES:  I have begun to send home the different duo-tangs and supplies.  I will send home a little bit each day.  Thank you :)

KINDERGARTEN CELEBRATION:

Our Kindergarten celebration will take place on Tuesday, June 19th, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the gym. I am sending home a letter with more information on Monday. After the celebration, we will walk to the park to enjoy a picnic lunch together. (weather permitting). Please be sure to come back to my classroom before you leave to collect your child' portfolio and art work as these items are quite large and WILL NOT fit in your child's school bag.  Also, please send the children in "dressy clothes" and they do not need to respect the colour dress code.


PARK DAY: 

On Wednesday, June 20th, 2018, we have planned a park and picnic day with grade 1. (weather permitting). Please see the letter I will send home on Monday for further details and what to pack. *YOU CHILD WILL NEED TO COME TO SHOOL WEARING HIS/HER BATHING SUIT*


FUN DAY:

Fun Day will be on Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at Good Shepherd School.  The PPO has organized lots of great activities for the children.

REPORT CARDS:

The term 3 report cards will be sent home electronically.  Please note that the legend for the grades is DIFFERENT for term 3 than it was for terms 1 and 2 An "A" no longer means "The student is making very good progress",  BUT NOW MEANS "The student exceeds the program expectations". Please refer to the explanation at the top of the report card.

CLASS WEBSITE AND PICTURES OF THE CHILDREN:

Please be sure to visit the Photos tab next week as I will update it with this week's picturesAlso, please SAVE any pictures of your children that you'd like.  During the summer I will delete all of the photos from my google account in oder to make room for next year's class pictures.

Please return the overnight buddy and journal book in the ziploc bag it was sent home in the next day.  We will continue to send home Olivia the Owl as well.

    Please send in the payment ($20.00) and permission forms for the family fishing trip field trip on Tuesday, June 12th, 2018 when you can (if you have not already done so). Please note that the cost of $20.00 is for YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY (your child and the number of adults accompanying him/her: 1 or 2). Please be sure to return the medical form as well as the bottom potion of the letter. Thank you and I look forward to a fun family outing together!

    Our new theme is Butterflies.  I invite the children to bring in books, toys or objects related to our theme that we can place on our theme table in the class. Please be sure to write your child' s name on the item or book so that I can easily return it to you. Thank you in advance!

    OVERNIGHT BUDDY:

    Our two class buddies will continue to circulate.  Each night a different child in the class will take home our class buddy Freddie the Frog and complete a page in his journal adventure book. Please return the overnight buddy and journal book in the ziploc bag it was sent home in the next day.  We will continue to send home Olivia the Owl as well.

The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word. Some ideas for the "th" sound include: three, thirteen, thread and thimble.
