On Wednesday we will say goodbye to Ms. Stef who has completed her kindergarten internship in my class.  We have enjoyed having her with us these past two months and wish her great success as she embarks on her teaching career.  We will miss you Ms. Stef!

HALLOWEEN CELEBRATION:

On Friday, October 30th, 2015, we will celebrate Halloween in my class.  We will do some special Halloween activities.  I encourage you to send your child to school with a costume if you'd like.  Here are some important points to remember for this day:
  • no violent or scary costumes
  • no masks
  • no weapons (even plastic)
  • My student teacher, Ms. Stef, does face painting for children's birthday parties and would like to surprise the children by painting their faces that day.  Please inform me in writing if you would not like her to paint your child's face.  Please note that the paint is hypoallergenic and will wash off easily with soap and water at bath time as it is not real paint. 
  • treats for the class: if you would like to send in treats for the class please be sure to send one for all of the children so no child feels left out.  There are 13 children in the class.  Please note there is NO OBLIGATION to send in candy or a treat.

When I checked the extra clothes last week, I noticed that many of the children's extra clothes included a pair of shorts.  With the change in season, I am asking all parents to send in a complete set of extra clothes to be kept at school for their child.  This includes:

Sound Monster: 

This Friday, October 16th, 2015, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the "p" sound on Wednesday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "p" sound include: pen, pencil, paper, potato, pineapple, pencil case, and purse.

Please continue to have your child practice writing his/her name EVERY DAY. 

REMINDER:

The blue and purple duo-tangs will be sent home every Monday and must be returned the following Monday.  Throughout the week, please review the sound of the week and have your child complete the corresponding pages in the purple duo-tang.  Please have your child practice singing the weekly songs/poems and complete the activity at the bottom of the page (if there is one) in the blue duo-tang. Please refer to the introduction letter for a more detailed explanation of this on the 2nd page in the blue and purple duo-tangs.

This Week in Kindergarten October 5th -October 9th

Sound Monster: 

This Wednesday, October 7th, 2015, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the "t" sound on Wednesday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "t" sound include: tape, turtle, turkey, tulip, tomato and two (2).

If you have not sent in your child's 3 apples, please do so as soon as possible. We have many fun activities planned related to apples.  Please send in a red apple (a Red Delicious or McIntosh), a yellow apple (Golden Delicious) and a green apple (Granny Smith). We will use the apples to make apple sauce and for a taste test as well as some Science and Math lessons.

LIBRARY: 

Library begins this week.  The students will visit the library with Ms. Alexis on Tuesday.  Your child will arrive home with his/her library book in a ZIPLOC BAG.  Please return the book next TUESDAY in the ZIPLOC BAG.

SCHOLASTICS BOOKS: 

Last Friday I sent home the September orders that arrived.  Please note some books were on back order and I will send them home as soon as they arrive.  If you are ordering books as a surprise or present for your child, please let me know and I will send home your order in a sealed envelope for you.  I am sending home the flyers for the month of October this week.  Each order helps earn free books for our classroom; however there is never any obligation to order.  The deadline to return the order form is: Friday, October 16th, 2015.

This Friday, October 2nd, 2015, we will be feeding the Sound Monster.  Please send in 1 item (a toy, a book, a picture, etc. ) that begins with the "f" sound on Friday.  The item will be returned to your child at the end of the day. Many of the children feel left out when they do not have an item to feed the Sound Monster on Fridays.  If you cannot find an item, you can have your child draw a picture and write the corresponding word.  Some ideas for the "f" sound include: fish, fire, four (4), flower and finger.

Important Information:

We have many fun activities planned related to apples in the coming weeks. I am asking all children to bring 3 apples to school this week.  Please send in a red apple (a Red Delicious or McIntosh), a yellow apple (Golden Delicious) and a green apple (Granny Smith). Please send the apples to school as soon as possible.  We will use the apples to make apple sauce and for a taste test as well as some Science and Math lessons. 

Should your child wish to share a book, toy or object related to our theme with this class, he/she is welcome to bring it to school to add to our theme table.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASS:

My class and the other Kindergarten class will be sharing the time available in the gym.  We will be alternating days.  Since we had Phys. Ed. on WEDNESDAY at 8:10 AM last week, we will have Phys. Ed. MONDAY this week again at 8:10 AM.  Unfortunately I was ill and not at school last Friday to send home a note to inform you of this.  In the future on Gym days (Monday and Wednesday alternating every week), please send your child to school with comfortable clothes (no skirts or dresses) and running shoes (if his/her indoor shoes are not running shoes). Thank you for your cooperation!

This week, we will begin our apple theme.  I invite the children to bring in books, toys or objects related to our theme that we can place on our theme table in the class.  Please be sure to write your child' s name on the item or book so that I can easily return it to you.  Thank you in advance!

This Wednesday, we will begin PHYSICAL EDUCATION class.  As I mentioned on Meet the Teacher Night, with there being very limited gym availability, we will have PHYS. ED at 8:10 AM and therefore the children will not have time to change.  I ask that you send your child in comfortable clothes (no skirts or dresses please) and running shoes.
